Home for Many

We are just marveling this summer at the life that now calls this land their home. By getting rid of most of the lawn grass and planting native plants we've completely transformed this place into one of incredible biodiversity and beauty.

Remember what we started with?

Here are a few notables of late:

Yellow warbler fledgling:

Prairie Rose growing in old field now that it's not mowed:

Red Admirals everywhere!

Bee-like Robber Fly:

Monarch nectaring on Wild Bergamot:

Bronze Copper and Honeybee nectaring on Culver's Root:

Emerald Jumping Spider:

Super interesting Grass Carrier Wasp making a nest in our deck chair. I sit here and have tea and this wasp bothers me not at all.

Zebra Caterpillar on Purple Prairie Clover:

Hummingbird Clearwing Moth on Wild Bergamot:

Stag Beetle on kitchen window (WOW!):

Giant Leopard Moth that fed something else:

Checkered-fringe Prominent Caterpillar (love this little fella):

Gray Treefrog on Ashy Sunflower:

This is a great life! Truly, truly great.
