A day in the life of a Biological Science Technician on the Revegetation Program at Carlsbad Canyon National Park. I don't want to have to type that again so, hereafter its: Biotech, Reveg Program and CNP!
Here's the office:
Check in and then I'm off to check on the plants. Here's a view on the main road into/out of the park:
Chihuahuan desert and blue skies:
The last couple of days I worked on putting the mesh cover over the top of the plant nursery:
Shading relieves stress on the plants by minimizing excessive moisture loss via evapotranspiration:
Here you can see that the entire top of the nursery enclosure is covered and that the plants are well-shaded. In the foreground are piles of salvaged native plant materials that will be used as mulch for upcoming plantings:
The Water Buffalo. No waterline to the quarry (where the nursery is located) so I'll be using this water tank and a gas-powered pump to water the plants:
Put the truck away, lock the door and its a wrap, as they say. A great day will get even better when I get home to Jennifer, Bounder and Bobcat!
Looks like you'll be working hard, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI like the looks of everything! The new blog design, the house, the friendly neighbors, plants, cats and the new job photos! It must be exciting and I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with Adam. I like the looks of everything and I am jealous - especially of that kid who gets to live next door and be your friend.
