Many woodlands, edges, pastures and fallow land here in the midwest have become home to an introduced non-native shrub known as bush honeysuckle. It does not comply with the "everything in moderation" adage but, instead - by virtue of adaptations it evolved in its homeland - dominates the native shrub layer and decimates the native ground flora. So, what to do?
One option would be to...........cut some down:
...........Strip it of bark:
...............use a utility knife for stubborn spots:
...........cut off gnarly stuff:
.......employ your vast toolkit:
......drive some pegs:
.......and, presto, you've got yourself a mock-up honeysuckle table:
.........slap on some paint and stain/varnish comb.:
.....marvel at your one-of-a-kind fastener-free joint system:
........better patent this soon!:
......."put on the coffee and grab some pie, we've got a place to set our cups!":
The lesson for today: create something from nothing - or at least from something that's in your way - like honeysuckle!
It turned out fabulous! Steve, you should start selling some of your pieces:)
