A Tale of Two Chicken Coops, Coop #2

If you caught yesterday's post you'll be waiting to learn about chicken coop #2.

So, while chicken coop #1 was more traditional, chicken coop #2 is all about alternative. And that's not surprising since its the brainchild of our road-less-traveled friend, Tim. Tim can design and fabricate anything and is also a gardener, homesteader and fellow nature nut. So you never know what he's gonna come up with next. Chicken coop #2 is a great example:

Could a coop be any warmer? Tim used straw bales for the walls and a discarded fiberglass boat, inverted, for the roof.

He wrapped it with fencing for stability, framed-up a door on one end...

Framed-in a large window on the south-facing side for passive solar heating:

With the chill of winter well along, it didn't take long for the girls to investigate their new coop...

...become familiar with its nooks and well-placed perches...

...find its cozy laying boxes...

...and get busy with providing Tim's organic, free-range fresh eggs!

Life does not really get interesting until we surround ourselves with like-minded and creative friends!!!
