Big Bertha, Free Lumber and Elbow Grease: Garden Fence Building, Part 2

The fence we started in "Big Bertha, Free Lumber and Elbow Grease: Garden Fence Building" has been taking more shape lately.

We'd already used up all of our throw-away 4x4's and 2x4's so now we turned to our stack of throw-away fence sections.  Take 'em apart...

 ...cut to length...

 ...sort...

 ...lay out fencing...

 ...tack in place...

....and install bottom and middle rails:

Once we rounded the corner...

...we had a system down and so we whipped out a whole additional side. That's 2 sides done in one day!

Two more sides, some shed fix-up, garden prep. and then planting (we can't wait).

  1. Hi J&S...well now Big Bertha has come in handy and free lumber always good...
Looks like a great fence, one that you can't get inside or you could be inside and not get out..lol
I can see the tinge of fringy green on the trees there!!

  2. Hi J & S,
Love it!!! What a great fence, and your garden is going to be huge! Removing the sod on my garden is taking forever, we're doing it by hand with a spade and fork. The turf on top had been hayfield for many years, so it's thick. But on the upside, there are a billion earthworms, so we'll be in good shap that way! I have one patch peeled up and want to get the potatoes in the ground this weekend while we work on the rest of it. Gardening season is so fun! I am just amazed at how you've been able to salvage so much of what you needed from what was there. I bet the former owner thought they were leaving you a pile of junk, not a pile of treasure! Good job! ~Vonnie

  3. Yep, crazy, trash versus treasure - one of the oldest stories of mankind! We also may have to start taking sod up by hand since the rain never seems to stop (and being this wet does not allow using a sod cutter)! Patience right?...
