Signs of Spring

It's 63 degrees here in Fort Wayne, Indiana right now! Spring showed herself this morning as we watched two opossums foraging in our backyard and a groundhog sprint through the same area on some hot trail. The two opossums live in a cavity at the base of one our trees by the creek. The groundhog lives in our brushpile. It's all too cool really...providing all this habitat for wildlife.

Touring our gardens later we noted some other signs of spring:

Buds developing on the apple trees...

the walnut trees...

and Kentucky Coffeetrees...

New growth on flax...

violets...
and catnip! Bounder is ECSTATIC. Bobcat loves it too, but not quite like Bounder.

While walking we heard Red-winged Blackbirds and saw a Turkey Vulture soaring. Later today a hike is in order! We can't let these first days of spring go without getting out and enjoying.

Here's a John Burroughs thought:

"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."
